Neuroendocrine Tumor Subtype
- Most commonly caused by carcinoid tumors (neuroendocrine tumors that secrete serotonin, histamine, catecholamine, prostaglandins, peptides, and other vasoactive substances)
- Sx: skin flushing, diarrhea, wheezing
- Dx: 24-hour urinary excretion of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid
- Tx: Somatostatin analogs such as octreotide, pasireotide, and lanreotide.
